Justice for Wang Wang
On 28 June 2026, a stray mother dog called Wang Wang and her three puppies became the victims of an extremely disturbing act of animal cruelty in Jieyang, China.
Wang Wang and her puppies were restrained and repeatedly beaten. Her three puppies were killed during the attack, before Wang Wang was set on fire while still alive. The incident was filmed and the footage was widely circulated online, shocking millions of people in China and around the world.
For many people, Wang Wang’s story has come to represent something much bigger than one tragic case. That’s why we started a petition calling on the Chinese government to strengthen legal protection for companion animals and ensure that extreme cruelty like this is far less likely to happen again.

What happened to Wang Wang and her puppies?
On 28 June 2026 in Jieyang, China, Wang Wang and her three puppies were subjected to a prolonged attack.
According to videos that were widely circulated online, five boys – all under the age of 14 – restrained Wang Wang with a wire or chain around her neck so that she could not escape.
They repeatedly beat both Wang Wang and her puppies with wooden sticks while filming the entire incident. Her three puppies were killed during the attack.
Wang Wang was then set on fire while still alive. Throughout the recording, the boys could be heard laughing and mocking her suffering.
The footage shocked millions of people in China and around the world. The incident has since been widely reported by international media and animal welfare organisations.

Wang Wang's story must lead to change
This situation represents far more than one tragic incident. Stronger laws can help prevent cruelty, promote responsible guardianship and foster greater empathy towards animals. They can also provide a clearer legal framework for responding when serious abuse takes place.
We are not calling for hostility towards China, its people or its government. Our goal is to promote the universal principle that every companion animal deserves protection from cruelty, regardless of where they live. We believe stronger legal protections benefit not only animals, but society as a whole, by encouraging compassion, responsibility and respect for life.
