Nowzad Dogs is a registered UK charity, formed in May 2007. The organisation is run by volunteers with the aim of improving the welfare of animals in Afghanistan; especially the dog population. This is achieved by direct action companion animal rescues and the development of educational programmes delivered to the local people of Afghanistan, as without their support and understanding there is little hope for change.
The charity continually strives to support the many cries for help they receive from servicemen and women that have adopted a stray puppy or rescued a dog or cat from cruelty. They also work alongside the Afghan Stray Animal League to support the running of an animal shelter and hope that over time there willbe many centres to assist the rescue and rehabilitation of stray and injured animals.
IAPWA first contacted Nowzad Dogs a few months after returning from Borneo and have been grateful for the support and encouragement that their Founder, Pen Farthing, has provided. Here's what Pen had to say about IAPWA:
"Making a difference to the lives of thousands of dogs and cats is always a challenge and the Nowzad Team have been inspired by the efforts of IAPWA and their dedication to improving standards in animal welfare in Borneo. The road to animal welfare is often long and difficult with many seemingly unsurpassable obstacles in the way and that is just in the UK. Attempted in a country thousands of miles away and the mission can at times seem impossible! But with the commitment of Nicky, Lynsey and the team at IAPWA the animals of Borneo that had no voice have just been giving their vocal cords! Its easy not to act and so much harder to get up and make a difference in the world – well done IAPWA for making that difference”.
