Orangutan Appeal UK was set up in 2000 in order to care for orangutans at the Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre in Borneo which have been displaced as a result of the palm oil and pet trades. Since then, hundreds of animals have been nursed back to health and a number have now been repatriated back to their native rainforest after a period of rehabilitation, or training in the case of babies who have lost their mothers. IAPWA visited Sepilok in April 2009 and fully support the work the team do to assist orangutans in need of support. Here's what they had to say about our work:
"Orangutan UK is pleased to support the work of IAPWA as we at the Appeal know only too well how difficult conditions can be for animals in Borneo and how the interventions of organisations like IAPWA can make a huge difference to the lives of suffering animals."
